Conspiracy Theories

Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon 47 years ago today. Watch him punch a moon landing denier in the face

Buzz Aldrin is one tough dude.

You don’t want to mess with a guy who had the balls to strap himself in a tin can during the dawn of the space age — and then be launched into space to pilot that tin can using less technology than a modern cellphone — and then intentionally crash-land that tin can into the ocean.

If you offered up your body as a virtual Guinea pig so scientists could test the possibility of human space travel, you’d be pretty annoyed to see a movement pop up claiming that your unprecedented life-risking sacrifices were nothing but a hoax.

Conspiracy theorist and moon-landing denier Bart Sibrel found that out the hard way one day in 2002 when he confronted Aldrin outside of a conference in Hollywood, California. After repeatedly provoking and harassing Aldrin, the veteran pilot turned and looked Sibrel straight in the face.

“I know you’d like to get a lot of attention, wouldn’t you?” Aldrin said.

“Well, you’re the one getting money for something you didn’t do,” Sibrel replied. “You’re giving a lecture for walking on the moon when you didn’t. That’s called being a thief.”

As Aldrin turned to walk away, Sibrel followed him.

“Do you think you can get to heaven without repenting?” Sibrel pressed. “Why don’t you swear on the bible that you walked on the moon?”

After repeatedly asking Sibrel to “get out of here,” Sibrel still insisted on getting in Aldrin’s face.

*Crack*

The LAPD investigated the incident, but dropped the charges after witnesses said Sibrel had aggressively poked Aldrin with the bible he was carrying.

Disappointed in all three. It is unfortunate the guy was so obnoxious. It was unfortunate Buzz hit the guy. It is unfortunate you are agreeing that an act of violence is appropriate. By agreeing with this act of violence, are you not condoning the pepper spraying of the Occupy protestors? Are you not condoning the forced removal of protestors anywhere by the powers that be? Are you not condoning the shooting at Kent State? MLK and Gandhi, both knew the power of non violence. How soon we forget if the violence reinforces our beliefs……

I don’t like violence but I can certainly understand how it might happen if someone is in your face from out of nowhere and harassing you, trying to trap you in a corner, and calling you a coward and a liar, trying to get their photo-op. Especially as I’m guessing that Buzz is a military man in the old school way that my dad was…not someone to stand for that kind of nonsense. I’ve seen movie stars harassed by paparazzi while with their young children punch someone who got too close and I can’t blame them either. I don’t like the violence but, these jerks are setting themselves up for it and are probably happy when they get it so they can make a big deal out of it and sue their victims. I don’t feel sorry for the guy that got punched one bit. he deserved it.

mr aldrin repeatedly walked away from this idiot. i would have punched him way before this.the guy is a disrespectful ass who needed his ass whipped. really, you are going to compare this with kent state? you are a complete moron!

Larry, your strawman argument, does not apply. This guy was not a “protester”, so any comparison to protestors, is irrelevant. By the way, anybody that insults me by calling me a coward, and a liar and a thief, is going to get a punch in the face.

Sorry Larry that is a leap of logic that makes no sense. You’re reaching. Punchng this fool and the abuses of police state are not linked. MLK and Ghandi relied on the use of violence to make their points. They manipulated it and used it to their own needs. They were far from non-violent. I fact they provoed violence to make their point.

Yes, I agree. People will always be rational, and they won’t defend themselves when put to the test. You, are full of shit, and you live in a world were reason is not welcome. Careless of your belief. This time, put real world examples into play, then hope that society will be more rational than they really are. Granted, I think they should be too, but this is just untrue. So yes, get in my face, I will punch you. You follow me and harass me, I will punch you. You force beliefs on me, I will punch you. I have one life and I will protect it and those around me from mental abuse. Violence is a good thing if used effectively against people that don’t have the brain to use violence on you. Therefore, stop trying to imagine a world where you want to live, and focus on this one we are at now.

A punch in the face by a man you’re insulting and calling names in front of his family and in public is not the same as pepper spray or shooting people. He’s only human. You don’t have to condone it to feel a sense of justice when you see someone acting like an ass get unexpected retribution.

    July 12, 2014 at 10:25 pm

I’m ashamed no one said anything to this idiot. I wish it hadn’t of come to that.

  18. Hi There

    July 12, 2014 at 10:32 pm

Buzz is not “the powers that be” he is a private citizen being harassed by some jackass who wouldn’t get out of his face and leave him alone, despite being asked to multiple times, and did all he could to slander and provoke him. He was pratically begging Buzz to punch him and I am sure he was very happy when he did. So no, it does not in any way shape or form resemble (or are people who cheer on Buzz in anyway “condoning”) police or military brutality against civilians. What a ridiculous parallel to make. All acts of violence are not equal, morality is not black and white.

Oh please! Buzz had every right to punch the idiot, if you cross a lion and get killed , it’s your fault! Violence is a last resort, use it to educate the unintelligible. Yes, I condone violence in certain circumstances.in this case, bravo Mr Aldrin, the idiot deserved it!

To Larry Heitkampp: I would love to see how you would act in such a situation. Imagine having a major achievement constantly being denied by a reli-lunatic. there is no arguing with this guy. Buzz tried to get away, the guy wasn’t leaving him alone but instead followed him. If you have a good suggestion of how to deal with such a situation, then lease share it. But don’t just be judgemental from your lazy chair and refer to others like Ghandi.

  24. Robert Ortega

    July 13, 2014 at 5:58 pm

Sorry to disagree, Larry Heitkamp. Comparing Mr. Sirel’s actions to non-violent protest is a false analogy. Sibrel initiated aggressive action first (blocking someone’s path on a public thoroughfare & verbal abuse (“fighting words” and deliberate insults) are forms of violence in both common and statutory law)). Sibrel initiated violence; therefore Aldrin’s response in kind was entirely justified.

  25. Justin Clark

    July 13, 2014 at 8:55 pm

Buzz Aldrin, a private citizen punched someone who was ruthlessly harassing him and slandering him. He had every right to do what he did as a recourse after asking the man many times to leave him alone and trying to follow a non-violent path by walkimg away. All of the other violent incindents you mentioned were representatives of the state abusing their power. So there is no comparison between the two. The man was also told by a representative of the property owner to stop harassing Mr. Aldrin, therefore the man was trespassing which means he was breaking the law.

What, a punch in the face is tantamount to police brutality, censorship and military violence against the populace? Are you nuts? Get off your bourgeois high horse.
Buzz wasn’t defending NASA; he was defending his own honor, he let liar go, repeatedly; he let thief go, repeatedly; it wasn’t until a man who had committed one of the bravest acts in history was called a coward that he struck out against a man who had been repeatedly told to leave, but wouldn’t, using his rental of an expensive room as an excuse for harassment.

Well, if those comments arent the stupidest ive ever read. Condoning an inconsequential punch to a deserving asshole is somehow condoning every act of violence in history? Buzz Aldrin is a man. He doesn’t deserve being maligned by this bible toting douchebag.

Problem is Buzz didn’t land on the moon. Do you really trust your government that much? As if they wouldn’t deceive you for personal gain or power. Do you understand the ramifications of being the first to the moon brought for this country? Why haven’t we done it again? Probably still think bin laden orchestrated 9/11. The guy was an ass yes, but spot on about the ‘moon landing’,

For every action there is a reaction. In this case it was violent.
This guy put himself in harms way when he engaged in provocative behaviour. Nothing new here , sure like to know what Ghandi has to do with any of this.
