When Veterans for Standing Rock founder Michal A. Wood Jr. initially conceived his mission to utilize veterans as “human shields” for protesters, he expected about 500 people to show up. But when signups reached 2,000, he had to stop it there.
This Sunday, the Army Corps of Engineers announced that it will “deny easement” for the controversial pipeline, dealing the most serious blow to the Dakota Access Pipeline to date.
But as that news was spreading throughout the camp and the nation, Wood was stuck on a road somewhere in North Dakota.
