A 2-year-old boy on Ohio shot his pregnant mother in the back, killing her and her unborn baby, CNN reported.
Police reportedly received a call from the mother after she had been shot, telling them her child shot her. Moments later, her husband called 911 and said “he received a phone call from his wife ‘screaming something about my son and needing to call 911.’”
When officers arrived on the scene, they found the woman and the child in an upstairs bedroom along with the gun.
The mother, who was fully conscious at the time, asked for the child to be taken out of the room and gave police the details of what happened. She was taken to a hospital where an emergency c-section was performed, but the baby was pronounced dead. The mother later died as well.
Along with the gun that was used in the shooting, police found a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun with six rounds in the master bedroom closet and an airsoft rifle in the computer room closet.
The incident come just days after another child shooting, this time in Kentucky where a 5-year-old child was accidentally shot and killed by a 7-year-old child while the two were inside a home.
There have been more than 150 unintentional shootings by children in the U.S. so far this year. The Everytown for Gun Safety advocacy group says the accidental shootings resulted in at least 58 deaths and 101 injuries.
