A 5-year-old child in Kentucky is dead after being shot by a 7-year-old child while the two were inside a home, NBC News reported.
An investigation by Kentucky State Police found that the shooting was accidental.
Despite attempts at life-saving measures, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
As NBC News points out, there have been more than 150 unintentional shootings by children in the U.S. so far this year, including three in Kentucky alone. The Everytown for Gun Safety advocacy group says the accidental shootings resulted in at least 58 deaths and 101 injuries.
There are no laws in Kentucky that impose a punishment for failing to secure an unattended firearm.
