In a tweet this Thursday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) chimed on the recent news stories surrounding the decision of stock trading app Robinhood to block users from buying or trading stocks targeted in a Reddit forum, including GameStop, AMC and BlackBerry.
“This is unacceptable,” AOC tweeted. “We now need to know more about @RobinhoodApp’s decision to block retail investors from purchasing stock while hedge funds are freely able to trade the stock as they see fit. As a member of the Financial Services Cmte, I’d support a hearing if necessary.”
In an attempt to reach across the political aisle, Sen. Ted Cruz retweeted AOC’s post, writing, “Fully agree.”
But Cruz’s peacemaking effort was met with a cold shoulder from AOC, who accuses him of playing a role in inspiring the mob of Trump supporters who breached the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 and threatened the lives of Democratic and Republican lawmakers.
“I am happy to work with Republicans on this issue where there’s common ground, but you almost had me murdered 3 weeks ago so you can sit this one out,” she wrote in response to Cruz. “Happy to work w/ almost any other GOP that aren’t trying to get me killed. In the meantime if you want to help, you can resign.”
