Architect who Trump stiffed for over $100,000 corners him on a key lie from the debate

Of the many noteworthy moments from Monday night’s presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, one of the most poignant was when Hillary brought up the many stiffed workers and contractors Trump has left in his wake.

One of those people is architect Andrew Tesoro, who Trump still allegedly owes “in excess of $100,000.”

Speaking to MSNBC Live about the time he designed a clubhouse for one of Trump’s golf courses, Tesoro addressed Trump’s claim during Monday’s debate that “maybe he didn’t do a good job” by showing a letter of recommendation that Trump wrote for him in 2006 when the job was done.

In the letter, Trump praised Tesoro as being a “top-notch architect.”

“Did he pay you on time?” anchor Craig Melvin asked.

“No, he didn’t. He paid partially along the way and the project snowballed over a four year period and our role in the project snowballed as well,” Tesoro said. “We became very much involved in interior design and construction stage work. We made many supplemental agreements as we went along and in the end those agreements were not honored.”

“I wound not expect to be paid at this late date. Mr. Trump had his chance to pay his bill ten years ago,” he added. “It was a considerable sum of money, probably in excess of $100,000 that we were left short at the end of the project.”

Tesoro said that Trump “has an amazing knack for telling people what they want to hear,” adding that the GOP nominee assured him that much more work and recommendations would come if he’d just let the outstanding debt slide.

“None of that has happened,” Tesoro said. “Nothing whatsoever. Not even a referral.”
