As Trump builds climate-denying team, leaked memo suggests he’s targeting climate science proponents

According to Bloomberg, a leaked document shows that Donald Trump‘s team is trying to identify Department of Energy staffers who are sympathetic to President Barack Obama‘s climate policies.

From Bloomberg:

The transition team has asked the agency to list employees and contractors who attended United Nations climate meetings, along with those who helped develop the Obama administration’s social cost of carbon metrics, used to estimate and justify the climate benefits of new rules. The advisers are also seeking information on agency loan programs, research activities and the basis for its statistics, according to a five-page internal document circulated by the Energy Department on Wednesday. The document lays out 65 questions from the Trump transition team, sources within the agency said.

Bloomberg reports that staffers were “unsettled” by the inquiry.

It’s no secret that Trump doesn’t care for action on climate change. The president-elect has threatened to withdraw from the Paris climate accords and has called global warming a hoax invented by the Chinese. Mother Jones has put together a timeline of Trump’s climate denial, which you can see here.

Taking on existing climate change policy is no small undertaking, which is the reason why many believe Trump is padding his surroundings with climate-denying people.

So far, appointees and possible appointees in Trump’s circle are overwhelmingly anti-climate science.
