Bernie Sanders: Trump is a socialist too — ‘except he wants to help billionaires and I want to help families’

During an appearance on Fox News Sunday this weekend, 2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders responded to President Trump calling him a communist, telling host Chris Wallace that he’s “obviously” not a communist and Trump’s accusation is just another example of him being a “pathological liar.”

At one point during the segment, Wallace asked Sanders how he plans to overcome the “socialist” label if he were to become the Democratic nominee.

“In many respects, we are a socialist society today,” Sanders said, adding that before Trump was president, “he received $800 million is tax breaks and subsidies to build luxury housing in New York.”

“Now, what does that mean when the government gives you $800 million in tax breaks and subsidies?” Sanders continued. “The fossil fuel industry, whose product happens to be destroying our planet right now, receives tens and tens of billions of dollars in tax breaks and subsidies, so does the pharmaceutical industry. The difference between my socialism and Trump’s socialism is I believe the government should help working families, not billionaires.”
