Some are saying that the best part of the 2nd GOP debate this Wednesday wasn’t any of the candidates on stage — it was Bernie Sanders.
Sanders live-tweeted the event held at the Reagan Library in Southern California using the hashtag #DebateWithBernie, and he didn’t hold back on what he sees as the wrong-headed approach conservatives take towards things most Americans care about.
Sanders was frustrated at the candidates’ unwillingness to acknowledge climate change:
Still waiting. Will they ever talk about climate change as a foreign policy issue? Or talk about it all? #DebateWithBernie

Rubio knows California has a drought. Will he have the courage to connect that to climate change or reject the science? #DebateWithBernie

War. What is it good for?
Can these guys talk about anything other than their desire to go to war? #DebateWithBernie

War, war, war. When do we get to their other major priority: tax breaks for billionaires? #DebateWithBernie

Don’t forget Planned Parenthood and women’s rights:
Kasich. You don’t know ANYBODY who doesn’t think we should defund Planned Parenthood? Really? You apparently don’t know the American people.

Yes @ChrisChristie. George W. Bush — gave us Iraq war, Wall St crash — was one of our great presidents. You are right. #DebateWithBernie
— Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) September 17, 2015
He also attacked the GOP’s tendency to revise history:
Yes @ChrisChristie. George W. Bush — gave us Iraq war, Wall St crash — was one of our great presidents. You are right. #DebateWithBernie

Racism and income inequality:
Waiting, waiting, waiting. Will we hear anything about racial justice, income inequality or making college affordable? #DebateWithBernie
— Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) September 17, 2015
The American people overwhelmingly want to raise the minimum wage to a living wage. Too bad, the Republicans don’t. #DebateWithBernie
— Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) September 17, 2015
Have you heard anyone use the word “poverty” yet? 47.7 million Americans living in poverty. No discussion. #DebateWithBernie
— Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) September 17, 2015
There was also a shout-out to Trump:
Trump. What a pleasant and humble person. Can’t stop saying kind and generous things about his fellow Republicans. #DebateWithBernie
— Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) September 17, 2015
Speaking to CNN Thursday morning, Sanders said that the debate was so “painful,” he had to shut it off.
