Black Twitter rips Kanye West with #IfSlaveryWasAChoice

When you piss off Black Twitter, you’re done. Kanye West is going to find this out very soon. If there’s the perfect way to cap off his insane remarks this week regarding this country’s history of slavery, Black Twitter putting his words into perfect context would be it.

Just to recap, West visited the offices of TMZ this Tuesday to profess his love for President Trump and to inform everyone that slavery was a “choice.”

“When you hear about slavery for 400 years — that sounds like a choice,” West said during an interview with TMZ’s Harvey Levin and Charles Latibeaudiere.

“Like, you was there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all?” West continued. “It’s like we’re mentally in prison. I like the word ‘prison’ because slavery goes too direct to the idea of blacks. It’s like slavery, Holocaust. Holocaust, Jews. Slavery is blacks. So, prison is something that unites us as one race. Blacks and whites being one race. We’re the human race.”

The sheer ignorance obviously pissed a lot of people, and West wasn’t being metaphorical about mental slavery. He was literally saying that enslaved Africans in the U.S. chose to stay in bondage up to a certain point.

According to writer Shanita Hubbard, one way to deal with this brand of ignorance is with humor.

“Black people have mastered the art of finding a way to use laughter as a healthy coping mechanism when something is just too painful at the moment,” she tweeted. “Don’t believe me? Check out #IfSlaveryWasAChoice
