Addressed to the Detroit Free Press, the letter went immediately viral, most likely due to the fever-pitched partisan tensions that were in the air.

Many of us Canadians are confused by the U.S. midterm elections. Consider, right now in America, corporate profits are at record highs, the country’s adding 200,000 jobs per month, unemployment is below 6%, U.S. gross national product growth is the best of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries. The dollar is at its strongest levels in years, the stock market is near record highs, gasoline prices are falling, there’s no inflation, interest rates are the lowest in 30 years, U.S. oil imports are declining, U.S. oil production is rapidly increasing, the deficit is rapidly declining, and the wealthy are still making astonishing amounts of money.

America is leading the world once again and respected internationally — in sharp contrast to the Bush years. Obama brought soldiers home from Iraq and killed Osama bin Laden.

So, Americans vote for the party that got you into the mess that Obama just dug you out of? This defies reason.

When you are done with Obama, could you send him our way?

Great letter but the facts and good news don’t sway the racist hater Republicans who are destroying our country. AND…WTF..you people that voted for them are so brainwashed by the lies and baloney from Faux news, etc that it boggles the mind. What you have accomplished though is guaranteeing no Repub can possibly be elected to the white house in 2016. The repugs ran on the premise that if elected they could govern. Haha. How is that working out for ya…hmmmm?

Robert Pitts to insult the president
It seems Republicans will go to any extent to insult the president who was twice duly elected by the people of this country. To do so domestically, even if daily, relentlessly and aggressively, including questioning his loyalty and patriotism, is perhaps understandable, however remotely. But for them to stoop to the level of doing so in the context of international relations and in front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a flawed politician, is extremely disturbing.
I understand that we in the United States respect and enjoy freedom of speech, but should we tolerate such insults to the commander in chief of the country?
Where do we draw the line? I wonder how we can expect even our allies to respect us if we denounce our president relentlessly. It sends the wrong message and is fodder for our enemies to play us against each other.
Republicans have been hounding the president since the day he was inaugurated and even now, six years into his presidency, they are still trying to de legitimize and derail his presidency.
We are setting the country back by doing that. Just look at the damage done to our country in the last 14 years, eight years of miserable performance by President George W. Bush when the Republicans did nothing to stop the country’s rapid slide into virtual disaster and the last six years, when they have practically refused to acknowledge Mr. Barack Obama’s presidency, let alone cooperate with him for the benefit of the country. That’s 14 years of wasted effort.
If we work together, we can realize the full potential of this magnificent country and spread the gains to all. Republicans’ continued hateful approach to the president is causing immense damage and we must change that. I hope the saner voices in the Republican Party will speak out against this outrage.

I agree, insulting the president, is insulting the American people and making our country and the President look weak. Its past time that we the people stand up for our president .We have to find away to stop the vicious attracts on him buy these beast that call them selves Republican politicians, there nothing but out and out raciest and there open about it as well .A law hast to be drafted up making it illegal to insult and disrespect the president and overriding his authority, making it treasonous ,a act of sabotage to do so .In other countries people are killed for less than that. look at Russia, North Korea, China ,and a lot of other countries. If the government don’t do it, then the people do it .I’m just saying.People of America we have got to stop this madness its casing us Americans to look like idiots for doing noting in our presidents defense, its also making other countries think that we are week, and many of them are already distrusting us as a world power and cowards .
