An Indiana woman who was arrested and charged in February for participating in the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 wrote a letter to the judge presiding over her case apologizing for storming the Capitol, saying that she felt “ashamed” that things turned violent.
Anna-Morgan Lloyd cited quotes from the films “Schindler’s List” and “Just Mercy” in her letter, saying that her attorney told her to watch the movies and learn “what life is like for others in our country,” The Hill reports.
“I’ve learned that even though we live in a wonderful country, things still need to improve,” Morgan-Lloyd wrote in her letter. “People of all colors should feel as safe as I do to walk down the street.”
Morgan-Lloyd stormed the Capitol with friend who was also charged. The pair took pictures and posted on Facebook that the event was the “most exciting day” of their lives, according to court documents.
Lloyd was given a plea deal stating that while she did commit a serious violation, she didn’t “engage in any physical violence” or destroy any property. She faces three years probation, $500 in restitution, and community service in her plea deal.
