Capitol rioter who swiped a beer from Nancy Pelosi’s fridge gets slapped with prison sentence

An Oklahoma man who took a beer out of Nancy Pelosi’s refrigerator during the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan 6 has been given a jail sentence followed by 2 years of probation, Law&Crime reports.

Andrew Ericson, 24, shared pictures of himself inside the Capitol to social media, showing himself seated in a chair with his feet on a conference table. He also posted a video of himself taking a Corona Light out of a refrigerator in House Speaker Pelosi’s office.

This Friday, Ericson was sentenced to 20 days of intermittent incarceration and 24 months of probation. Prosecutors wanted him to serve 60 days. This September, he pleaded guilty to one count of parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.

“These acts show Mr. Ericson either failed to grasp the severity of what happened on Jan. 6, or he did understand and chose to make a mockery,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Macey said at Friday’s hearing. “He was not ashamed at the time.”

According to U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden, although Ericson wasn’t seen committing any violence during the riot, his action deserve at least some incarceration.

“I’m faced with someone who is not living up to our society’s expectations,” McFadden said. “You pled to a misdemeanor, but the conduct was quite serious for a misdemeanor. Some incarceration is necessary to provide some punishment [and deterrence].”
