Cenk Uygur on Trump and Cruz: GOP voters look at these ‘monsters’ and say ‘yes, these are our guys’

The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur called out Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, slamming their responses to the terror attacks in Brussels as dangerous and demonizing rhetoric towards Muslims which is rubbing off on their supporters.

Following Tuesday’s attacks, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz have called for torture in the way of waterboarding or worse.

“We have to be smart in the United States,” Trump said. “We’re taking in people without real documentation. We don’t know where they are coming from, we don’t know where they’re from, who they are… they could be ISIS, they could be ISIS related.”

Uygur points out the candidates’ rhetoric is furthering resentment and hostilities towards Muslims.

“When they see a tragedy like this, they jump on it. They brag about their poll numbers. They politicize it,” Uygur says. And they get their supporters to think, “‘We got to hate the Muslims…and if you hate them hard enough, I bet that solves the problem.’”

Uygur showed footage taken by TYT Politics reporter, Jordan Chariton, who interviewed a number of Trump and Cruz supporters. “They’ve gotten people to believe things that are, literally, unbelievable.”

“Despite what Trump says, Department of Homeland Security officials have repeatedly maintained there’s no credible evidence that members of ISIS or other known terrorists have entered or plan to enter the United States by land at the southern U.S. Border,” Uygur said. “And out of the 784,000 refugees resettled in the country since September 11, 2001, not a single one has been arrested in connection with a credible plot to attack the United States.”
