On a recent episode of The Jim Bakker Show, Christian activist Mary Colbert blamed the spread of coronavirus on what she says is China’s defiance of Old Testament directives on “unclean foods.”
“It points out to what the scriptures teach us about the clean and the unclean food,” Colbert said. “There is food that is prohibited in the Old Testament from eating, and God had a reason for it — because they carried bacteria, they carry viruses, they carry things that your body cannot absorb. … These are all part of the unclean animals.”
As the Friendly Atheist’s Hemant Mehta points out, the Old Testament chapter Colbert is likely referring to also forbids the eating of pork — which millions of Americans eat daily.
Mary Colbert, a guest of Jim Bakker, said on today's show that COVID-19 arose from Chinese people eating biblically "unclean" foods.
That same chapter in the Bible also says pork is unclean.
And Jesus later "declared all foods clean."
