Blaming the gays for natural disasters is nothing new for far-right anti-LGBT pastor Kevin Swanson. When devastating wildfires broke out in California in late 2017, he declared it was God’s punishment for “turning pedophiliacs and homosexuals into heroes” by implementing curriculums that recognize the achievements of LGBT people.
“2017 was a window of opportunity for the nation to repent and it didn’t happen. It was the year of God’s judgment on America. God brought judgment to America in 2017,” Swanson said in a radio broadcast this January, pointing out that 2017 “brought the worst hurricanes and the worst fires in American history.”
“It was the year that California introduced 10 textbooks into public schools that turned sodomites — that is, men from Sodom doing what men from Sodom like to do — and turning pedophiliacs and homosexuals into heroes,” he continued. “That was the point of the 10 textbooks that were issued for the first time. I believe that Jerry Brown signed the bill that encouraged homosexual indoctrination in California public schools for six, seven, eight, nine, and ten-year-olds and that came into fruition for the first time.”
Now California is burning again, and Swanson is, again, holding the LGBT-friendly state responsible.
On his radio program this Friday, Swanson said God is once again punishing the state for its years of normalizing “the sin of homosexuality.”
“If you look at the history of California, they have been at the forefront of this,” he says in an audio excerpt flagged by Right Wing Watch. “The first gay pride march occurred in San Francisco in 1970 and then San Francisco legitimized homosexuality in 1972. In 1982, Laguna Beach, California, elected the first openly homosexual mayor in United States history. In 1999, California adopted a domestic partnership law; I believe it was one of the first in the nation to do that.”
He then went down the list of victories for LGBT rights in California.
“…California became the first state to mandate homosexual indoctrination for K-8 students and then, in 2012, California became the first state to sign a ban on therapy that was attempting to convert homosexuals into non-homosexuals,” he said. “And then, in 2017, the California state schools implemented the homosexual indoctrination program … and that was the kickoff for the biggest fires that California has ever seen in its history.”
“So God is burning down California in 2017 and 2018 after about 25 years of leading the pack to legitimize the sin of homosexuality in that state.”
