Christian pastor suggests Greta Thunberg is demonically possessed: ‘She needs Jesus’

Climate activist Greta Thunberg is a favorite target for right-wingers, including President Donald Trump, who’s been seemingly out-of-sorts since the teen was nominated for a Nobel Prize and was voted Time Magazine’s 2019 Person of The Year. But Thunberg is also in the cross-hairs of other controversial right-wing figures, including Pastor Kevin Swanson, who believes her rise to prominence is a sign of “the unraveling of the Western world,” Right Wing Watch reports.

Swanson, in a brief break from telling listeners on his radio program that the biblical wages of homosexuality are death, exploited the fact that Thunberg has Asperger’s Syndrome, suggesting she’s possessed by demons and needs Jesus.

Then he referred to Mark 9, the biblical story of a boy afflicted by demonic spirits who was eventually healed by Jesus and expanded on his sentiments about Thunberg, calling her “psychologically disturbed.”

“I have to say there is something very disturbing about the appearance of and the presentation of this Greta Thunberg,” he said. “The other demonic spirits are using her to lead the world wherever it’s going.”

“Friends, if this isn’t a quintessential demonstration of the death of the West, or what an entire empire, what multiple empires, look like at the verge of collapsing, this is it,” he said. “It’s ridiculous. On the one hand, we want to be compassionate with Greta. I truly believe that Greta needs Jesus and short of her coming to Christ, I don’t know what is going to happen to this young lady. It is sad to see her in the condition that she is in.”

But perhaps one of the most remarkable things about Thunberg is her rare ability to combat this nonsense in a way that’s both unblinking and based on science. For her, Asperger’s Syndrome really is a superpower; one that she wields astutely. She’s unapologetically logical, in a way that religious right-wingers like Swanson perhaps can’t reconcile with.
