Christian televangelist on Trump: ‘He absolutely admires Christ in others’

In the Rolodex of self-delusions perpetuated by the pro-Trump Christian/evangelical cult, one the most baffling is the belief that Trump is a devout Christian. This is an idea disseminated by both the further fringes of the cult and the more mainstream, and televangelist James Robison is no exception. According to him, Trump surrounds himself with Christians because he “admires the Christ in others.”

In a video clip flagged by Right Wing Watch, Robison interviewed Christian author Michael Brown, who’s another far-right figure who tries to square Trump’s known vile behavior with his alleged Christian faith.

During the interview, Brown mentioned Bob Woodward’s recent book and said that if the inside accounts of the White House being a dumpster fire are true, it only makes him support Trump more.

“If it was as bad as described, it wouldn’t surprise me,” Brown said.

“Even if all the worst stuff in the Woodward book was true—even if it was—the fact is Trump really seemed to care about people, he seemed to feel that he kept his campaign promises,” he added.

Robison then chimed in, saying that Trump “wants people who believe in prayer praying for him.”

“He shows an unbelievable admiration of the Jesus that he sees in other Christians and you can see it,” Robison said. “He absolutely admires Christ in others.”

Robison, who’s been a spiritual adviser to Trump since the 2016 campaign, declared that no one “has ever received me in any leadership role more openly, more fully and freely than did Donald Trump.”

“So if Jesus says, ‘If they receive you, they receive me.’ Well now, you work out the theological ramifications of that.” Robison said. “All I’m telling you is that he received. And what I’m believing is that when you sow the word of God faithfully, unapologetically, unwavering, then I believe it always accomplishes its purpose. And I think we’re watching that.”
