Chuck Todd: ‘Silence from Republicans is stunning’ after Clinton links Trump to racist ‘alt-right’

On NBC’s Today show this Saturday, Meet the Press host Chuck Todd pointed out an interesting phenomenon among Republicans after Hillary Clinton directly referred to Donald Trump as a racist who embraces the “alt-right.”

On Thursday, Clinton gave a devastating speech linking Trump to the far-right racist fringe, saying that a man “with a long history of racial discrimination, who traffics in dark conspiracy theories drawn from the pages of supermarket tabloids and the far reaches of the internet, should never run our government or command our military.”

Todd pointed out how unprecedented it is that Republicans would refrain from counter-attacking after the Democratic nominee called the GOP nominee an outright racist in front of the national press.

“No Republicans outside the campaign said, ‘How dare you, Hillary Clinton, call the Republican nominee a racist,’” Todd said. “The sound of silence among mainstream Republican elected officials yesterday is stunning.”
