CNN’s Don Lemon breaks down why Trump is staying quiet about the Waffle House shooting

During a segment on CNN Tonight this Monday, host Don Lemon floated a theory on why President Trump hasn’t commented publicly in the deadly Waffle House shooting on Sunday in Antioch, Tennessee that left five people dead.

“It would be nice if he tweeted about the four people who lost their lives in the Waffle House, the four black people who lost their lives, and the black hero from that, but not unless it’s a Muslim does he tweet about something like that,” Lemon said.

The shooting was carried out by 29-year-old Travis Reinking. He was arrested on Monday.

According to reports, Reinking opened fire at the Waffle House just before 3:30 am on Monday while wearing nothing but a green jacket. He kept shooting as he walked inside, at one point stopping to reload. That’s when customer James Shaw Jr. reportedly charged the gunman, wrestling the weapon away.

At least four more people were wounded in addition to those killed.

As The Hill points out, White House Press Secretary praised Shaw’s heroic actions and relayed a message of condolence to the victims, but Trump hasn’t addressed the tragedy yet himself.

Among the victims is 29-year-old Taurean C. Sanderlin of Goodlettsville, Tenn., Joe R. Perez, 20, of Nashville, Deebony Groves, 21, of Gallatin, Tenn., and Akilah Dasilva, 23, of Antioch. According to The Washington Post, Shanita Waggoner, 21, of Nashville, and Sharita Henderson, 24, of Antioch remained hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in stable condition.
