In the opening of his show this Monday, CNN anchor Jake Tapper took the opportunity to poke fun at Kellyanne Conway‘s usage of the Orwellian term “alternative facts.”
“Lots of talk by the Trump team of alternate facts this weekend. Here’s an alternate fact — I’m Wolf Blitzer, and you’re in the ‘Situation Room.’ ‘The Lead’ starts right now,” Tapper said.
This past weekend during a Meet the Press interview, Conway argued with host Chuck Todd over claims by President Donald Trump, and ultimately his press secretary Sean Spicer, that the crowd size at Trump’s inauguration were bigger than the turnout for Barack Obama‘s 2009 and 2013 inaugurations. Conway said Spicer’s version of the numbers weren’t wrong, but were simply “alternative facts,” a term she coined which has since earned her widespread mockery.
“You’re saying it’s a falsehood. And they’re giving, Sean Spicer, our press secretary, gave alternative facts to that,” Conway said in the interview.
