Cop arrested and charged for torturing and killing therapy dog who ‘radiated happiness’

A Michigan sheriff’s deputy and corrections officer has been arrested and charged for allegedly shooting and killing his rescue dog and dumping it in a ditch, Fox2 reports.

Jacob Wilkinson allegedly killed the male dog because it nipped at him while he was clipping its nails. According to Fox2, Rachel Gentz of the Humane Society of Macomb said the dog, named Habs, was special. Habs was chosen by Blue Star Service Dogs to be trained by inmates to become a therapy dog for veterans, but Habs was “too friendly” for the program.

“He just radiated happiness wherever he went,” Gentz said. “He walked into a room and just lit it up.”

Jacob Wilkinson adopted Habs last year after he failed to finish the program. Now, Wilkinson is charged with torturing and killing Habs after he was found in a ditch with his mouth and legs duct-taped and shot to death.

“There is absolutely no reason for anyone to do this – dogs have feelings just like we do,” Gentz said.”He then went to find duct tape. Duct taped on his legs and mouth, put him in the trunk, drove him to the middle of nowhere and put 3 bullets in his head.”
