Cop tries to shoot unleashed dog — misses and shoots his partner instead

A Detroit police officer was struck in the leg by a bullet fired by his partner, who was trying to shoot a dog, The Detroit News reports.

The incident took place as the officers were responding call about a suicidal person when they were charged by a dog who was unleashed. According to reports, one officer fired his weapon at the animal, missed, and struck his partner in the leg.

“The dog charged at the officers; the officers feared for their safety,” an officer told WXYZ-TV. “One officer fired one round at the dog. The round didn’t strike the dog, it struck his partner in the lower right calf.”

The wounded officer has been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
