Cop shoots at homeowner’s dog — bullet ends up wounding another cop

This Sunday, North Carolina sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance call. According to WYFF4, they were warned beforehand about multiple dogs they could encounter at the residence and even saw a “Beware of Dog” sign posted at the home.

After knocking at the door, they saw a large pit bull inside the home.

“Deputies retreated from the house and porch after they knocked because of the aggressive nature and size of the bulldog,” said Maj. Frank Stout of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Stout says that when the door opened, “the pit bull aggressively came at the deputies.”

“One deputy was able to divert the charging pit bull and it turned toward another deputy and lunged at him. That deputy fired, striking the bulldog. One of the rounds fired by the deputy ricocheted off the ground and struck the first deputy in the leg.”

The wounded deputy was treated at the hospital and released. The dog ran back into the home after the shooting, but its condition was not known at the time of WYFF’s report.

The dog wasn’t so lucky. It was euthanized Monday evening.
