Crime-related Hostage situation in North France, near Belgium

French media is reporting that armed men have taken several hostages during an apparent bank robbery gone wrong in the small northern French town of Roubaix, said police.

Several shots were fired close to the Belgium border however, the gunmen were said not to be linked to the November 13 Paris attacks, according to French media.

“An operation is underway after hostages were taken. Gunshots were fired and the neighborhood has been cordoned off,” a source told Reuters. “A bank director and his family may have been taken as hostages.”

La Voix du Nord newspaper reports the hostages were taken to a gas station around 7:00 pm local time by men armed with Kalashnikovs.
