Dem lawmaker responds to Trump: ‘Why do we allow presidents from shithole companies?’

Firing back at President Trump for his questioning of why the U.S. accepts immigrants from “shithole countries,” Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) wondered why we “allow presidents from sh*thole companies like the Trump Organization.”

According to The Washington Post, Trump made the comments during a meeting with lawmakers to discuss protections for immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador, and various African countries. According to the Post, Senators such as Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Dick Durban (D-IL), Tom Cotton (R-AR), and Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) were present for the meeting and were taken aback by the comments.

The Post reports that Trump said the U.S. should instead seek to bring in more immigrants from countries like Norway.

In a statement, the White House did not deny Trump made the remarks.

“Certain Washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people,” White House spokesperson Raj Shah said in a statement.

“President Trump is fighting for permanent solutions that make our country stronger by welcoming those who can contribute to our society, grow our economy and assimilate into our great nation,” the statement added.
