Philosopher, author, and academic Dr. Cornel West compared Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton to the infamously disgraced 90s band Milli Vanilli while talking to CNN’s Chris Cuomo.
Dr. West said that Clinton only gives “lip service” to social justice issues through speeches which mimic Bernie Sanders, while failing to actually work to solve them through progressive policy.
During CNN’s New Day on Monday, Dr. West praised Sanders for the bravery he showed in supporting Jesse Jackson’s 1988 presidential bid, as well as being “on the ground marching with Dr. King.” He was, however, not as impressed with Clinton’s political history and Wall Street connections:
“Sister Hillary Clinton is the Milli Vanilli of American politics. She lip-syncs, she gives lip service. But when it comes to policy, who supported the crime bill? Who supported, not just the deregulating of banks, but also pulled the rug from under welfare?”
Dr. West also spoke of the corporate media’s support of Trump, through obsessive coverage of his every increasingly ridiculous move, while virtually ignoring Bernie Sanders’ campaign.
“We know Donald Trump is a Frankenstein of corporate media. They cover every Twitter [message], they cover every speech, every word. If Bernie had that kind of coverage, people would know who he is.”
