Evangelical leaders: Dems aren’t just impeaching Trump, they’re impeaching ‘millions of God-fearing patriotic Americans’

Now that President Donald Trump has formally been impeached, his religious-right allies are (unsurprisingly) upset. This includes evangelicals Samuel Rodriguez and Johnnie Moore, who serve as informal advisers to the president, Right Wing Watch reports.

The two released a joint statement after the House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump Wednesday night, the right-wing site Newsmax noted. Both claimed that “millions of Americans  recognize that the House leadership is not actually impeaching the president of the United States but the policies and people that he represents.”

“The Democrats in the House impeached millions of God-fearing, family-loving and patriotic Americans from the Democrat and Republican parties,” the statement said. “God bless our country as we endure this political drama on the eve of the most sacred occasion of our most envied democracy, the year of the presidential election.”

According to the pair, the impeachment is really an attempt to subvert values held dear by religious voters.

“Our relentless prayers especially rest with the president of the United States and upon all of those who led us into this utterly partisan disregard of the most powerful tool our founders gave us to undo a presidential election — which is exactly what this is an attempt to do.”

Rodriguez heads the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference and Moore is the president of the Congress of Christian Leaders.
