Exactly 0.0% of Icelanders under the age of 25 believe in intelligent design

According to a new poll, 0.0 percent of Icelanders under the age of 25 believe that God created the world.

That’s right: 0.0 percent, too few to even count.

The poll was conducted by Sidmennt, the Icelandic Ethical Humanist Association, and surveyed Icelanders about their thoughts on religion and Christianity.

Although younger people all around the world are becoming more secular, Iceland appears to be the first country where young people have completely embraced science. According to the poll, 93.9 percent of Icelandic youth believe that the world was created by the Big Bang, while 6.1 percent were unsure or believe in something else.

Older Icelanders are more likely to believe that God created the earth. Still, only 24.5 percent of those in the oldest age demographic, 55 and older, believe that the world was designed, with 46.1 percent believing in the Big Bang,m. The rest were unsure or without an opinion.

Young people in Iceland are also more likely to throw out the God concept all together. Although a large number under 25 still identified as Christian (42 percent), atheists were a close second at 40.5 percent. The study also found that those in Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital and largest city, were much more likely to be atheists.

The survey also questioned Icelanders about the separation of church and state. Currently, Iceland still has a state church, the Icelandic Evangelical Lutheran Church. Seventy-two percent of all Icelanders supported the total separation of church and state, with 28 percent opposed.
