FBI raids the home of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort

Thanks to The Washington Post, we’re now learning that FBI agents raided the home of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort late last month.

Citing people close to the matter, the Post said the FBI’s warrant allowed them to seize items from Manafort’s residence in Alexandria, Virginia on July 26. The raid took place after Manafort met with the Senate Intelligence Committee, which, along with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, is also investigating the Trump campaign’s alleged ties to Russia.

Speaking to ABC News, a spokesman for Manafort confirmed that the raid had taken place and that Manafort was cooperative.

“FBI agents executed a search warrant at one of Mr. Manafort’s residences,” the spokesperson said. “Mr. Manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries and did so on this occasion as well.” The Post added that the agents arrived his home without warning.

From The Washington Post:

Mueller has increased legal pressure on Manafort, consolidating under his authority a series of unrelated investigations into various aspects of Manafort’s professional and personal life.

Manafort’s allies fear that Mueller hopes to build a case against Manafort unrelated to the 2016 campaign, in hopes that the former campaign operative would provide information against others in Trump’s inner circle in exchange for lessening his own legal exposure.

Manafort, who has been under intense scrutiny, has previously voluntarily given documents to committees investigating the Trump campaign’s possible collusion with Russia.

The investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election has accelerated in recent weeks, most recently with an impaneling of a grand jury on the matter.
