Fire sparked by couple’s gender reveal party kills California firefighter

A firefighter has died battling fires in California’s San Bernardino National Forest that were sparked by a pyrotechnic device used in a gender reveal party, the New York Post reports.

“Our deepest sympathies are with the family, friends and fellow firefighters during this time,” Forest Service spokesperson Zach Behrens said in a statement.

The blaze has since burned over 19,000 acres and is about 66 percent contained, according to reports. It was ignited on September 5 when a couple set off the device at El Dorado Ranch Park during a gender reveal party.

The El Dorado Fire is among two dozen wildfires currently burning in California, with more than 3 million destroyed and causing at least 25 deaths.
