Forget the Zodiac Killer: Ted Cruz may be the frontman of this 80s Christian metal band

According to German philosopher, Hannah Arendt, “Appearance – something that is being seen or heard by others as well as ourselves – constitutes reality.” But, does this ring true for Republican Presidential candidate, Ted Cruz, who looks surprisingly like Stryper frontman, Michael Sweet? It’s a humorous theory that may hold water.

We know that Cruz was a Christian mime in High School, so it wouldn’t be preposterous that he might throw on the black-and-yellow outfits of Stryper. Cruz and Sweet share the same height and were only born a couple of years apart. Coincidence? I think not. Another coincidence is that there’s good reason to believe that neither Cruz or Sweet have been in the same room together. Cruz’s campaigning dates and Stryper’s tour dates leave both men in different places at different times.

Here’s the source of the allegation, via Facebook:

I’m not saying Ted Cruz might be the lead singer of Stryper. I’m saying he’s DEFINITELY the lead singer of Stryper.

If this wasn’t enough evidence then Michael Sweet came out himself and said in a statement to the Daily Dot:

“It always amazes me how often posts that really matter never see the light of day, yet some wannabe comes along and posts something that is so ridiculous yet it goes viral? Twisted, yet the way it is. If I’m the real Ted Cruz, then maybe Robert is Donald Trump, Tim is Hillary Clinton and Oz is Marco Rubio? Wow! Is it true??? Hmm……”

Ted Cruz does not strike me as a metal listener. He has said that he likes singing show tunes to his wife. Now, show tunes and Christian metal are on two different ends of the musical spectrum. Sweet has not gone into specifics about his political beliefs. The only political stance we gotten from him is in the form of a tweet that encourages all to, “#VoteForTruth” and “#VoteForUnity” come election time. Now, depending  on your political stance this could apply to any candidate or it could simply mean that Sweet will not be voting.

Whether Ted Cruz is a politician by day and Christian metal frontman by night, we can all agree on one thing: Nobody wants to hear him sing show tunes.
