Former chair of Alabama pro-life group is arrested and charged with child sex abuse

The former chair of an Alabama anti-abortion group who was later employed by the state’s Department of Education has been arrested and charged with child sex abuse, Newsweek reported.

Marty Decole “Cole” Wagner is accused of subjecting a child under the age of 12 to “sexual contact.” He has since been fired from his government relations job at the department.

“The allegations against Mr. Wagner are serious, tragic and shocking,” a department spokesperson told Newsweek. “While he was employed by our department for only a few months, Mr. Wagner has been terminated effective immediately. No further information is available at this time as the investigation is ongoing.”

He has since been released on a $60,000 bond.

Speaking to reporters in 2018, Wagner said that that the group Alliance for a Pro-Life Alabama is “tasked with educating voters about the constitutional amendment and providing them with accurate and truthful information while, at the same time, refuting falsehoods and misinformation that may be disseminated by pro-abortion forces within the state.”
