Fox’s Jeanine Pirro: Derek Chauvin should be charged with ‘premeditated murder one’

During the “Opening Statement” segment of her Fox News show this Saturday, Jeanine Pirro launched into a blistering screed against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, making the argument that the killing of George Floyd was indeed premeditated.

“What happened to George Floyd was a torturous and sadistic murder that has been etched into our national consciousness,” Pirro said. “It can only be handled in one way — with zero tolerance. Zero.”

Within days of Floyd’s May 25 death, Chauvin was charged with 2nd-degree murder, and the remaining three former officers who were on the scene were charged as accomplices. But Pirro asked if Chauvin should have been charged with “murder one,” meaning that his actions were premeditated.

“Officer Derek Chauvin’s actions were beyond reckless, beyond depraved, beyond a simple intentional murder,” Pirro said. “George Floyd was not resisting arrest, he was compliant. Even more egregious, he wasn’t being arrested for a violent crime, but for allegedly using a counterfeit $20 bill to buy food during a pandemic.”

Pirro then provided a detailed description of how premeditation “can be formed in seconds, simultaneous with the act itself.” As Pirro described the moments of Floyd’s death in incredible detail, she seemingly grew emotional at times.

“Folks, this is not just recklessness, this is not depraved indifference to human life, this is not just an intentional murder — this is premeditated murder one.”
