GOP strategist slams Trump and Republicans over shutdown: ‘All of this is on them’

A prominent GOP strategist is putting the blame for the 2018 government shutdown squarely on Trump and Republicans.

Republican strategist John Weaver broke with his part this Saturday and placed blamed for the government shutdown squarely on the heads of President Trump and the GOP.

“Trump created the [Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program] crisis. The congressional wing of the GOP refused to fund CHIP. Trump & GOP ignored the pleas of the Pentagon for a fully funded budget. All of this is on them,” Weaver tweeted on Saturday.

Weaver, who worked for Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) and Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) 2008 presidential campaign has been a vocal critic of Trump in the past.

The government shut down came about at midnight this Friday after the Senate failed to pass a stopgap funding measure to continue government services. Democrats and Republicans are currently battling over the narrative of who is responsible.

As of Friday night, the hashtag #TrumpShutdown was the top trending topic all around the world.

According to CNN, the White House on Sunday called for Senate Republicans to “change the chamber’s rules to resolve the funding impasse as the government shutdown continued into its second day.”

President Donald Trump tweeted his call for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to invoke the so-called nuclear option and thereby remove leverage for Senate Democrats.
