Grieving widow posts sign at memorial service with a special message for religious attendees

For some, it’s easy to forget that secular people have their own way of dealing with the death of a loved one.

Although it’s meant with good intentions, sentiments like “They’re in a better place” or “Things happen for a reason” mean nothing to an atheist, and even sometimes compound their pain.

Redditor PostMormon recently shared an image from a friend’s husband’s funeral, where she asked funeral goers to abstain from suggesting the possibility of an afterlife or a divine plan.

“My newly widowed friend told me she was so weary of all her religious family members telling her that her deceased husband was in a better place, that she was going to get a sign telling them to stop. I thought she was kidding…” PostMormon wrote.

“…until I attended his memorial today.”
