Hillary Clinton trolls Trump with Russian hat at Yale commencement speech

In honor of the Yale tradition of wearing interesting hats on graduation day, Hillary Clinton took a veiled swipe at President Trump and brought a hat of her own — a Russian fur hat.

“I brought a hat too … a Russian hat,” she told the students on Sunday to a burst of applause and cheers.

“If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em,” she said.

Clinton, who graduated from Yale, focused her speech on the need to students to go out in the world and help uphold democracy.

The speech was peppered with jokes that drew from her heated campaign. For example, she joked about how she’d made sure to bury a tape of her singing acapella during her Yale days — buried so deeply that not even WikiLeaks would be able to find it.

“If you thought my emails were scandalous you should hear my singing voice,” she said.

Clinton even poked fun at her election loss.

“No, I’m still not over it,” she said. “I still think about the 2016 election, I still regret the mistakes I made.”

She said that while she’s still processing what happened, the challenges the nation currently faces are at the forefront of her mind.

“We’re living through a time when fundamental rights, civic virtue, freedom of the press, even facts and reason are under assault like never before.”

“We are also witnessing an era of new moral conviction, civic engagement, and a sense of devotion to our democracy and country,” she added.

She also called on graduates to confront fake news and support quality journalism.

“At this moment in our history, our country depends on every citizen believing in the power of their actions even when that power is invisible and their efforts feel like an uphill battle.”
