Infowars host pleads guilty to Capitol riot charges — claimed Alex Jones tried to ‘deescalate’ the situation

Owen Shroyer, an Infowars host who made claims that the 2020 election was stolen, pleaded guilty this Friday to being among the mob of Trump supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, the Associated Press reported.

The show host and conspiracy theorist, who never actually entered the Capitol, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of illegally entering a restricted area. He faces up to one year in jail.

Shroyer, 33, hosted a show called The War Room With Owen Shroyer on Infowars.com, the site owned by Alex Jones.

Prosecutors say Shroyer stood outside the Capitol on that day and yelled that Democrats are “tyrants” into a megaphone.

“And so today, on January 6, we declare death to tyranny! Death to tyrants!” he shouted.

Shroyer led hundreds of rioters in chants of “USA!” and “1776!” In an affidavit, he claimed that he stood with Jones as Jones tried to deescalate the situation.

Harkening to the last time Americans overthrew their government in a revolution while standing on the Capitol steps where elected representatives are certifying a Presidential Election you disagree with does not qualify as deescalation,” prosecutors wrote in response to his claim.
