In their latest horrific video where they beheaded 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians, ISIS warned viewers that they were “south of Rome,” adding that “We will conquer Rome with Allah’s permission.”
The militants even started a Twitter hashtag to promote the theme.
From the Washington Post:
Exactly what “Rome” means to the Islamic State is unclear — some experts say it may actually be a reference to the United States or Turkey, or even the West in general. But Italy is worried. Libya is just a short boat ride across the Mediterranean. Thousands of refugees already make this journey to Italian shores every year. What’s to stop the Islamic State?
But when a few Italians got word of the hashtag, they trolled ISIS in a way that would make Plautus proud.
Warnings about traffic due to a recent transit strike were most common:
Translation: “Remember snow tires or chains if you take the highway. Otherwise we sequester the tank.”
Food is also an essential part of Italian humor apparently:
All in all, the responses were hilarious.
