Jan 6 audience laughs at video showing Josh Hawley pump fist at rioters then run for his life

A brief outburst of laughter arose from the audience at Thursday’s hearing headed by the Jan. 6 committee, when a video display showed Missouri GOP Sen. Josh Hawley pumping his fist at Trump supporters who gathered at the Capitol, then in the next frame running away from the violence that ensued.

Hawley can be seen on security video rushing towards a staircase. The video was shown in contrast with a famous photograph of him allegedly raising his fist in solidarity with the crowd of Trump supporters who gathered at the Capitol that day.

“Later that day, Sen. Hawley fled after those protesters he helped to rile up stormed the Capitol,” Democratic Rep. and Jan. 6 committee member Elaine Luria said. She alleged that many of the people Hawley saluted later breached the Capitol.
