Jerry Falwell Jr denies reports that he resigned from Liberty University

According to numerous reports this Monday, Liberty University says Jerry Falwell Jr. resigned his position as president of the evangelical college. The news comes after reports emerged that a Miami man said he had an eight-year affair with Falwell Jr.’s wife after he met the couple at a Miami hotel — an affair that Falwell Jr. allegedly liked to watch from the “corner” of the room.

Falwell Jr., 58, who was recently put on leave from his position at the school, said on Sunday that he and his family were blackmailed by the man.

According to POLITICO’s Maggie Severns, Falwell Jr. reached out to her and denied the reports of his resignation, saying that he’s not leaving his position after all.

“Jerry Falwell Jr. tells me he is NOT leaving his post, despite indications from Liberty that he will do so. ‘I have not resigned,’ Falwell says,” Severns tweeted.

Speaking to Virginia Business on Monday, Falwell Jr. said that he has not agreed to leave his position permanently, nor does he plan to.

“Falwell added that Reuters’ report released Monday that a former business associate, Giancarlo Granda, had a years-long affair with Falwell’s wife, Becki, with his full knowledge was ‘90% false,'” Virginia Business reports. “Falwell said in a brief phone interview Monday that he had told the Liberty Board of Trustees earlier in the summer that he needed a short break from work.”
