After conflicting reports, Jerry Falwell Jr. resigned from his post at Liberty University. On Friday, reports surfaced that Falwell denied initial reports of his resignation. But this Tuesday, he announced that he’s completely moving on from his tenure at the evangelical college.
Speaking to journalist Richard Chumney, Falwell quoted Martin Luther King Jr. while expressing relief that his tumultuous time at the college is over.
“It’s a relief,” Falwell said. “The quote that keeps going through my mind this morning is Martin Luther Ling Jr: ‘free at last, free at last, thank God almighty I’m free at last.”
Falwell resigned in the wake of numerous scandals, most recently the revelation that he and his wife carried on a sexual relationship with a pool attendant they had befriended.
