Jill Stein finally explains photo of her at same table with Michael Flynn and Vladimir Putin

This February, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow appeared on VICELAND’s Desus & Mero and started out her comments by referring to the now-infamous picture of Trump’s ex-National Security Advisor Michael Flynn sitting at a table in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Also in the picture sitting in the foreground is 2016 Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

Maddow isn’t the only one who’s wondered what Stein was doing at the event hosted the by the Kremlin-funded Russia Today news network. Questions surrounding Stein’s attendance were coupled with speculation about her silence on the recent scandal involving the Trump administration’s alleged ties with Russia.

Finally, posting to her Facebook page on February 26, Stein acknowledged the photo and gave an explanation as to what she was doing there.

“I was in Russia to speak at an RT conference along with many other people including many fellow activists from the peace movement,” Stein wrote. “I was there to call the US and Russia on their militarism and challenge to adopt a #PeaceOffensive instead.

Stein went on to point out that although she was seated at the same table as Putin and Flynn, she didn’t speak to them, adding that she’s told this several times to reporters but it was never deemed “fit to print.”

While it’s true that Stein spoke of a proposed joint “peace offensive” with the U.S. and Russia during her remarks at the conference, she only spoke of the U.S. operations in Iraq and the War on Terror and mentioned nothing of Russia’s role in bombing campaigns in Syria, which have killed scores of civilians.
