Larry David on if he’s ‘alienating’ Trump supporters: ‘I could give a f*ck — go ahead and alienate yourselves’

Larry David didn’t mince any words in a recent interview when asked if he was “afraid about alienating” Trump supporters for wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat on his show Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Journalist Jimmy Traina shared a clip of David being interviewed by Michael Kay in January after President Donald Trump shared a scene from Curb on his Twitter feed. In the scene, David discovers that wearing the infamous hat is “a great people repellent.” And proceeds to wear the hat all over Los Angeles to discourage people.

In the January interview, Kay asked David:

“There are people that wear the MAGA hat and like what the MAGA hat represents. Are you afraid about alienating them? They could be fans of the show?”

David’s response was to-the-point.

“Alienate yourself. Go, go and alienate! You have my blessing! No, I could give a f**k!”

In the clip shared by Trump on Tuesday, David’s driving a car and accidentally swerves into a biker who’s not happy about it.

“What the f**k are you doing?” the man asks.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t see you,” David said behind a closed window.

There’s a pause and then the biker asks him to get out of his car. David puts on a MAGA hat and apologizes once more. That changes the biker’s attitude.

“Just be more careful next time, okay?” he said, switching his anger down a notch.

“Will do,” David said.

Trump, posting the video on Twitter, captioned it “TOUGH GUYS FOR TRUMP.”

Critics savaged Trump, who was seemingly unaware that David’s HBO series is mocking the hat and what it stands for.

Jeff Schaffer, Curb Your Enthusiasm’s executive producer, noted David’s use of the MAGA hat during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last month.

“Larry in the hat is such a dissonant image,” he said. “You realized when he put it on that you just never see a person in a MAGA hat in Los Angeles. It’s like spotting a double rainbow of intolerance.”
