Lauren Boebert is sorry for throwing pin in trash that honored child killed in school shooting

In a recent post, Colorado GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert said a video showing her throwing a memorial pin for a child killed in the Uvalde school shooting in the trash wasn’t what it appeared to be.

Last week, a video circulated Twitter showing an activist handing the pins, which featured green Converse shoes in honor of Maite Rodriguez, one of the 19 students killed in May 2022 at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The pin was being handed out in the halls of Congress by members of anti-gun violence group March of Our Lives and Lives Robbed, an organization formed by the families of the children murdered at Robb Elementary.

The video shows an activist handing the pin to Boebert, who can then be seen tossing it in the trash.

“Last week, there was a video of me throwing an item away that I had received randomly from somebody in the hallway,” Boebert said. “I was walking, had Air Pods in, and tried to tell the man that I was occupied and he continued.”

“And as he was handing me what turned out to be a memorial pin, I recognized him as a man who came at me very aggressively just a few weeks prior during a press conference. He was so aggressive that he was apprehended by another member and detained by Capitol Police officers,” she said.

“I wanted to make it very clear that I did not want to receive anything that this man had to give me, nor did I know what he was handing me,” she continued.

“If anyone thinks that I was disrespecting a child who tragically lost their lives at the hands of an evil, evil person, I want to apologize for the appearance of that,” she added. “But that’s not at all what it was. I simply didn’t want to receive anything from this aggressive man who was harassing me and my office.”
