Speaking on Fox News this Tuesday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) took aim at fellow Republican Liz Cheney (WY), saying she suffers from “Trump derangement syndrome.”
“I look at the situation of Liz Cheney and I just think it’s sad,” Cruz said. “I’ve always liked her, I haven’t agreed with her on everything, I think she’s a bit too eager to send in the Marines and to invade countries all over the planet, but I’ve always liked her and I think she falls into the category of people who Donald Trump just broke, just shattered.”
“She hates Donald Trump so much that it just has overridden everything in her system,” he continued. “She’s lashing out at Trump and Republicans and everything, and she’s become a Democrat and it’s sad to watch what has happened. It is Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
Republicans have turned on Cheney because of her repeated criticisms of former President Donald Trump and his voter fraud conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. Cheney has also accused Trump of inciting the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
Firing back, Cheney in turn told CNN’s Melanie Zonona that Trump “broke” Cruz.
“A real man would be defending his wife, and his father, and the Constitution,” she said, apparently referring to Trump’s past derogatory comments about Cruz’s wife.
