Speaking at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WO) said that as Republicans gathered objections to 2020 election results on Jan. 6, 2021, she overheard a fellow House member disparage former President Donald Trump.
Cheney said she asked a staffer what those papers were for, since there were so many House members coming in and signing them.
“I was in the Republican cloakroom working on my remarks because I was supposed to speak that day, and there were sheets of paper that were laid out on the desks, and I asked one of the staffers in the cloakroom, ‘What are these sheets of paper?’ because members were coming in and signing them. … And as I was sitting there, a member came in and he signed his name on each one of the states’ sheets, and then he said under his breath, ‘The things we do for the orange Jesus.”

Later in her remarks, Cheney criticized Republicans who’ve been echoing Trump’s attacks on the FBI after the agency’s search of Mar-a-Lago.
“Those who are protecting Donald Trump elected leaders of my party are now willing to condemn FBI agents, Department of Justice officials and pretend that taking top secret SCI documents and keeping them in a desk drawer, in an office in Mar-a-Lago or in an unsecured location anywhere was somehow not a problem,” Cheney said.
