At a town hall event this Tuesday in Iowa, a farmer gave state Senator Chuck Grassley an earful on the GOP’s plans to repeal Obamacare under President Trump.
“I’m on ObamaCare,” Chris Peterson, 62, told Grassley. “If it wasn’t for ObamaCare, we wouldn’t be able to afford insurance.”
“Over 20 million will lose coverage and with all due respect, sir, you’re the man that talked about the death panels. We’re going to create one great big death panel in this country that people can’t afford to get insurance.”
Peterson was referring to an anti-Obamacare talking point from Obama’s presidency, where Republicans claimed implementation of the law would result in “death panels” that would dictate end-of-life care for individuals.
“I believe at this point, with any one of those three, [those] 20 million people won’t lose because we made clear that for those on the exchange, the [coverage] will continue,” Grassley replied.
“Don’t repeal ObamaCare, improve it for god’s sakes,” Peterson shot back.
