Mike Pence in 2016: ‘Foreign governments cannot participate in the American political process’

In the wake of bombshell news reports chronicling President Trump’s alleged attempt to pressure the Ukrainian government to investigate 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, a 2016 video clip of then-vice presidential candidate Mike Pence warning against foreign governments participating in U.S. politics is getting some renewed attention.

During his vice presidential debate with Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), Pence said that the prohibition of foreign entities meddling in U.S. internal affairs is “basic stuff.”

“Foreign donors, and certainly foreign governments, cannot participate in the American political process,” Pence said.

The clip, shared by MSNBC senior producer Kyle Griffin, has been viewed 2.1 million times as of this writing.

The 8-second clip was taken from a segment where Pence was attacking the Clinton Foundation for accepting “tens of millions of dollars from foreign governments.”
