Mike Pence works against women but manages to win ‘Working for Women’ award

According to The Cut, Vice President Mike Pence has received the “Working for Women” award by the Independent Women’s Forum. Yes — the same Mike Pence who defunded Planned Parenthood while Governor of Indiana, all while signing off on laws to ban abortions for fetuses with disabilities, mandate expensive fetal burial requirements, and oppose equal pay legislation and women in the military.

The bizarre decision to honor Pence makes sense given the goals of the IWF. According to its website, the conservative nonprofit aspires to “improve the lives of Americans by increasing the number of women who value free markets and personal liberty.” Naturally, “personal liberty” excludes giving women control over their bodies and the choice to have children or not.

On top of this, it’s worth noting that Kellyanne Conway, a senior adviser to President Donald Trump, is a board member of the conservative organization.

In a statement issued Friday, the Women’s Forum described the award as recognition of “an individual who values free markets, works to create a more dynamic and innovative work world, and celebrates the valuable contributions women make to society.”

Pence is on the record writing an op-ed blaming working mothers for “stunting” their children’s “emotional development” and essentially discouraging women from entering the workforce if they eventually want to have children. He’s also gone so far as criticizing Disney for the movie Mulan, which Pence claimed indoctrinated children with the liberal agenda by portraying a young women besting her male peers in combat.

Already, social media is calling out the irony:
